Quite Charles, although the cynic in me expects that the Judge knew full well that he ought to have granted bail at the first hearing. To have granted bail on this ocassion would merely have proved that. So the adjournement is a necessary part of the charade to make the point that it was finely balanced and that the man did have to be represented before the judge was able to grant bail.
