I actually think keeping the CPD regime is a good idea.

It forces me to find time to undertake training. With all the pressures of the day and the "damn phone ringing" getting away from the office assists in sensible learning and an opportunity to meet others.

I think the SRA have got this wrong and should keep mandatory CPD in place.

As a corollary, I worry about the impact of this and the removal of SAR Reports for our profession. Client money is sacrosanct and not having an audit of those monies is to me, a risk not worth taking.

I do not suspect that many Solicitors are fraudulent or that all is doom and gloom - but the public will feel safer by having SAR Reports me thinks.
