This highlights the way in which the bar has successfully advanced the opportunity of its members. This also highlights - again- the appalling and continuing failure of the Law Society to protect the interests of its members. This is the most ineffective and impotent professional body ever. You only have to look at the ease with which direct access by barristers was allowed to begin and flourish without any effective opposition from the Law Society compared with the obstacles put in the way of solicitors qualifying as solicitor advocates.
