Anonymous at 04.24 pm it is entirely the fault of the Law Society that this direct access business has come about. The Law Society has been lobbying for a merged profession for decades, (I wrote my first letter to the Gazette in 1977 decrying that policy) despite the fact that high street firms generally realise that the split profession benefits them, allowing them to get on with work in the office and using (generally cheaper) counsel to waste time at court waiting for their case to come on.

Not to mention the benefit to client who haven't been stuck with the in house advocate of whichever firm they instruct.
