Sorry Mr Morrison, but we do not earn £250 an hour, we are now subject to fixed fees no matter how much work we put in (multi-track aside). The reality of minor claims is that if they are not profitable to run as even "simple" claims are made more complex by the fact that an infant approval hearing has to be arranged and attended. While the work involved in a minor's claim is usually not difficult it is often time-consuming, particularly as many litigation friends have absolutely no interest in the claim once they realise they are not going to be able to spend their child's money and it will be retained in the court funds office until the minor is 18.

The margins involved in claims are very tight now, being unable to take success fees from minors cuts into that margin even further. As the article points out this is a grotty subject, but we have to be able to make a profit to continue to operate, or we will not be able to represent anyone.
