I am not concerned, though I sympathise with those who sweated as they jumped through the expensive hoops to qualification.

The wheel now seems to be turning full circle to the 1950 - 60s.

I was articled in 1960 aged 16. My pa put up a wedge of his hard earned as a premium. I emerged as a solicitor in 1966 and practiced for 20 years. I retired 2 years ago as a district judge and a recorder.

No, degrees and thousands spent on this course and the other are not the be all and end all. Experience is. I came across dozens of competent, honest and enthusiastic youngsters in my last years before retiring. I would have been happy to employ them and have them as trainees. Their CVs, I suspect, did not fit the model of the firms still taking on trainees - wrong school, university etc. If this helps them , all to the good .

My concern is that it is really smoke and mirrors as there will be no jobs for them after qualification.
