Nice article. There are some interesting comments in here - and nothing too surprising, really.

One question I have, though, is with regard to the comment that "many firms, particularly outside the US, do not understand what cloud computing is, and associate cloud with hosted services like Salesforce.com and Dropbox. However, cloud computing from a multi-tenanted environment adds a level of scalability and resilience that few can match." I don't agree.

Many firms do understand what "cloud computing" is (and Salesforce very much qualifies as a cloud environment, by the way). They have all adopted a variety of systems, such as Mimecast, which provide specific solutions. They have not adopted a "one-stop shop" just yet because it's not yet been cost-effective (which was alluded to by one of the panelists).

More importantly, the suggestion that "a multi-tenanted environment adds a level of scalability and resilience that few can match" is actually outright wrong. The only "benefit" that a multi-tenanted solution offers is lower cost to the provider (which, I'm not convinced, they all pass on as, if they did, more firms would probably have considered adopting them to reduce their cost structures). If anything, a multi-tenanted cloud solution adds a level of risk that does not exist in single-tenancy cloud solutions.
