Letter to Journalist (emailed)
I just wondered whether you had read and noted the comments below your article concerning the gender imbalance in top city firms but focusing in the large part on the appalling use of heels as symbolic of women and the labeling of women who work in law as “women lawyers” (as distinct from “ordinary lawyers” being the inference).

I appreciate you may be under pressure to make your articles appeal to readers – but seriously… how on earth do you think these sorts of references and ridiculous out dated sexually-stereotyped headlining helps?

I apologise if it was actually the editor that got hold of your story and added these ghastly references and had to some extent taken out of your hands but the buck must stop somewhere and this sort of write-up and referencing plays to traditional views regarding women and how they can be summed up and typified by their attire and appearance rather than the job they do and skills that they bring. Would you take kindly to being referred to as a “woman journalist” rather than a 'proper' one?
