I'm not sure I agree, Ian. I think it is entirely correct that this man was publically rebuked.

For any advocate to adorn himself with needless fripperies suggests that they have a higher regard for themselves and their image than the business at hand. If this man is so concerned to impress upon his opponents and the Bench his purported status as a KGCSt.J, that suggests that he is not devoting all of his energies to the case he's suposed to be presenting.

I regularly appear against counsel. I too am well aware that there are judges who will consider me inferior to my learned friends. I can either dress up as Superman and require a DJ to address me as Your Highness, or I can make sure that I'm well prepped, fluent and persuasive. The judge was entirely correct to act as he did.
