WHOSE FRIPPERY ANYWAY?
Statistically the judge will at least subliminally subscribe to the character more typically moulded according the prescription of Dr Thomas Arnold, replete with postured gravitas, anally retentive, studied reserve and desperate for courage and grim experience.
This model that so thoroughly imbues the judiciary is of course built on the entirely fallacious interpretation given to Sparta in Plutarch's Life of Lycurgus as then adopted by Plato. The judge's pompous moral compass is thus built on a myth as wacky as any Harry Potter story.
If the court is be a place of truth and justice it may well serve a valuable function to display such burlesque and test the ingrained prejudice inherent in the performance so sustained by the status quo ante.
