The very existence of McKenzie friends points to a market failure in the mainstream legal services market. There is demand for legal services out there that cannot be met by the existing suppliers, so alternative suppliers step into the market. Why are we surprised/outraged?
You can't force people to pay for something they cannot afford. Either change your service offering to offer lower cost options, or accept that this work is for someone else to do- a McKenzie friend.
Solicitors have relied for too long on working in a profession protected from true open competition because the regulators forced people to come to us. Not any more, it seems. The consumer is king, we must learn to serve the new master.
