Isn’t the rise of Mckenzie friends just another sign of the failure of the law society to protect its members? What the law society should do now is concentrate and come up with answers on how solicitors can in appropriate cases be able to provide a low cost service. Lets say we have a solicitor who wants to provide say a service to the poor in family cases. He should be allowed to start up on his own, say in his own home without the need for professional insurance. The law society should provide cover and this would be a good pro bono. In this way we can stop the new threat of Mckenzie friends. By being proactive we fight the threats. By just sitting in chancery lane twiddling our thumbs we won’t
