I have been a MKF for a number of years. I am a unqualified lawyer. Does not having a qualification put my clients at a disadvantage ? absolutely not. Why? because in all honesty a large quantity of family lawyers I come across in court are absolutely terrible at their job. They are weak and show a complete lack of knowledge. It is discrimination against the MKF by some Judges and other professionals that place the client in a disadvantage.

The fact some solicitors have to accept is this: you guys overcharged the public for years! still we see quotes of £400, £500, £600 an hour from solicitors, some are over £900 an hour. The fact is this - a MKF charging £400 for a whole case for contact (2 hearings and a couple of apps plus advice) is the same price most solicitors charge for 1 hour!

The public have wised up to your practices and your over inflated fees~! so who do you think will benefit from that?

There is a simple answer to your concerns about us 'non professional-professional McKenzies / Lawyers' that is to charge a reasonable and cheap fee fixed at a level most of the country can afford. You may find Legal Aid is reinstated then.

As for the new MKF Body - I wont be joining. I will not join a body I am not compelled to join, it will not make one jot of difference to solicitors and some judges looking down their noses at us - and thats how I like it - underestimate the MKF!!
