I am well aware of the above rules. I always try to minimise a client's costs as do most lawyers I know. However, it can be very frustrating if, despite written advice to a client, they ignore that advice, if the other party is stubborn or if their solicitor is stubborn. Large costs cases are in the minority. The vast majority of cases never reach the court arena. That is often down to good lawyers and the fact that their clients have chosen to listen to the good advice given. No one ever comments on the high number of cases well settled. One of the most difficult clients I ever had cost himself thousands and thousands because he knew best. He still thinks he was badly done to.
