"The Ministry of Justice ... regulates claims management companies." Really?
I've had over two years of bombardment by a dozen CMCs (all but two with Scouse accents - I know, I was born there) trying to persuade me to make a claim for PI in a no-fault car accident. They had a counter to every reason I gave for not claiming. Similar to Paul Nichols, I was told by one caller that I was being abusive and had the phone slammed down. But most despairing was that they all seemed genuinely puzzled that that there might be something dishonest in persuading me to claim - it was nobody's money. Eventually, I went along with one of them, always saying that it was impossible to aver that the 'shaking-up' I suffered temporarily aggravated the longterm pain/discomfort that at 72 I was suffering from. They passed me on to 'their' solicitors, whom (para-legals, I suppose) I informed in the same way and who assured me in the same way that they expected to get me £1500-£3000. Only the GP they passed me on to stopped them. I told him about myself and the accident, he asked me some questions and then said, "I suppose you won't be surprised when I say there's nothing there I could state was likely to have caused or worsened your prior symptoms, especially after such a lapse of time". I replied that the only thing that surprised me was that the firm, on such flimsy grounds, would go to the expense of sending me to him. He smiled and said that it might not be an expense, as they might not pay him for his zero conclusions. We shook hands and I left. He seemed the only honest person in the process.
I reported them all to the Claims Mgmt Regulator (arm of MoJ, no?) and got thanks and encouragement to carry on. They, too, now seem to be a bunch of jobsworths: I've seen nothing to indicate any action was taken, and the calls kept coming.
