It would have paid most of the judiciary appointed from the Bar to do at least 6 months in a solicitors practice, or now, do 6 months in 'direct access'. Very easy to sit in judgement in the cold light of day and criticise those at the sharp end and slash costs, but all of this has an end result. Your seeing it now. It may take this crisis for the ivory tower brigade to actually start to recognise and value the job representatives do and actually voice this. But without any experience it is hard to have any understanding.
