Wasn't this the primary statement that came out of the colossal waste of time and money that was the "McLibel Trial" [McDonalds v Steel & Morris]? Big multinationals kept negative publicity and demos out of the public eye by threatening anyone who did this with a libel action. The fact that we are still talking about this 15 years after the Court of Appeal decision in that case shows that very little has changed, except negative publicity is now much easier as a consequence of comparison sites. But, as this impacts big business more than anyone, neither Labour or the Conservatives have had much of an appetite to take the bull by the McNuggets and do something to help those with genuine comments and grievances.
