When we did civil legal aid, a good proportion of our clients could not read, or could not read effectively. It is not surprising that after withdrawal of legal aid, and in particular the advice scheme ( once called the green form scheme) every Tom Dick and Harriett can now issue and get a default judgment. Now I suppose there are many added to the list of those who can't read English, (if at all) and they are no doubt elsewhere in this country or elsewhere in the EU after judgment is entered blissfully unaware of the paper shuffling in courts!
