I agree, Sam Barron but I suspect the use of anon has a simpler explanation. In our modern world, where there is always the risk that some group will take offense at what the writer might think is a straightforward and innocent remark, and repeat part of what has been said via social media. There have been some quite unpleasant examples of people being subjected to 'mob' attacks and even losing their jobs because of something they said online.

This is of particular importance for people who may suffer damage to their professional reputation as a result of such attention. It is simply safer to post as anon.
