I have recently been researching dyslexia and in particular the extent to which government policy reflects current knowledge. I have been very impressed with the approach Gove has taken to education, particularly his desire to reverse the tendency for privately educated children to monopolise places at our best universities. He is a much mocked man but there is no doubt he showed a willingness to bypass the traditional resistance to change exhibited by the teaching profession. As outsiders we know many of our children have been left less prepared for the world than they ought to have been yet the educational professionals seem incapable of improving.

The difference between Gove at Education and Gove at Justice is that he had years before 2010 to formulate his views on education. He is coming the Justice with neither the qualifications nor the preparation. I suspect it will be too much for him.
