Quite correct, Jackson and others. The only way this can possibly be made to work is if there is large scale "redundancies".

"Sorry, Jack, you have been a great servant of this firm for the last 30 years. You have worked your socks off, stayed late at night, come in at week-ends and so on, but sadly we have to 'let you go'".

"But, Simon I have a wife, three children to house and feed, a mortgage and I shall never get other work now. I have given my life to this practice. How can you do this to me? I shall be ruined".

"Sorry, Jack, welcome to the real world where profit alone counts for anything."

"But this practice is profitable without sacking me, sorry 'letting me go' as you put it".

"Yes, but if, sorry when, we let you go we can get someone cheaper to take your place and the profits will be even greater. Then we can float on AIM and become worth £2m+ overnight. That's really why we are letting you go, Jack. Oh, yes, and by the way, here is the website of Dignitas in Switzerland if things really are as bad as you say".

"Thanks, but no thanks, Simon. I think you have the right name. Isn't 'simony' some kind of clerical offence, selling offices or something like that. Suits you down to the ground."
