I am neither old, nor flatulent. But, I do NOT see maternity leave among solicitors as an employment issue.

We are fundamentally different from most other professions due to the long term PERSONAL commitment we make to regular clients, who rely on us to resolve some of the most important issues and problems in their lives, and PAY VERY HANDSOMELY for the privilege of our dedication and hard work.

Either you are a committed professional, in which case you take a short break, arrange child care and come back to look after your clients asap; or you are a jobsworth who sees the firm only in terms of providing you with a salary, perks, and something to pass the time between babies.

Most of the female solicitors with whom I have worked over the years are in the former camp, thank God!
