I find this talk about perpetuating the species really funny. I doubt that with one of the highest birth rates in Western Europe, the UK is suddenly going to become depopulated if a few lawyers decide not to procreate. I agree with anon at 10.56 that having children is a lifestyle choice, and particularly in the case of small firms a woman or man deciding to take a long time off can be problematic. In such circumstances, I have no problem with partners asking what would in other cases be seen as fairly intrusive questions about the intentions of potential recruits. My only proviso is that such questions should be asked equally of women and of men.
