Isn't the point about working directly for the public that they then get your number, wish to speak to you, expect you to write letters etc etc. If barristers wish to do work directly with the public efficiently and effectively(rather than as an advocate receiving instructions on cases that Solicitors have filtered for them) then qualify as Solicitors and work in a CAB or Law Centre or in a Solicitors firm.
A dog with a peacock feather tied to its tail is still a dog, after all.
