If a sole practitioner solicitor turns over £100,000 per annum which costs him £91000 in expenses, wages, insurance and general office expenses - he is making a PROFIT of £9,000.

Under the new proposed scheme of pro bono, he would presumably be making a LOSS of £1000 per annum instead. A great incentive for him to keep his office open and continue 'working for the community' I am sure!!

I realise these figures in the example are perhaps rather extreme to emphasise the point but I am equally quite certain that such firms do exist, particularly in the present climate. I know of solicitors who take little if any reward for themselves but make just enough to keep the office afloat and pay the staff.

These guys in london live in another world!
