So one paid MF who is an idiot is a good reason to stop all paid ones?

That sounds like matters being addressed on their merits without prejudice doesn't it?

Maybe all paid professions should be banned if one or two are disreputable? Struth this is FROM the Bar?

Lets get some things straight here, being a lawyer is NOT a protected profession, anyone can practice law, you just cannot act as or represent as a Solicitor or Counsel.

In civil matters its up to the judge on MFs, if the judges do not assess a MF properly then the BAR should take the issue there not seek to ban all.

However and I know of no one who gets this right in this area, there is right of audience for all in criminal court, yes its in legislation, its just not obvious and so should be tested at law. So the Criminal bar need to learn their law a bit, its not up to them or judges unless with cause to say anything about MKs in criminal law unless its for reason individually.

Of course if the legal profession had stood forward earlier it would not be in the soup now.

There are many great MFs and some bloody marvelous paid ones, I know some with significant case law to their name. Yes some good ones charge £15/hr and £100 plus travel for a day in court.

Worried about the competition?

As with all things Caveat Emptor, that goes for paid or unpaid MF and legals.

I would NEVER have become a MF if it was not for crap or weak lawyers and judges. So many seem to have lost the plot and the rest say and do little about it.

Yes it was suggested I study for professional legal qualifications for over 20 years before I spoke in court , and then after but frankly when you have had your life ripped to bits by lawyers and your helping others who have or are there is no time for such niceties.

And yes I refuse to be tied by the legal profession in any form, by the law YES no problem.

I do know some damn good lawyers, but few can afford them.
