Everything others have said about hot-desking being anti-human is true. We 'hot-desk' here, also on the basis that on average we only need 8 desks for 10 people, with part-timers etc. (Interesting that DLA work to the same statistics, I wonder if this is just a general assumption shared by time and motion people). Trouble is, everyone comes in on a Wednesday... and currently my team doesn't have any part-timers. Total pain in the backside trying to identify where there might be a spare desk, as well as demoralising. We are relocating over the next few months and have been promised that each of us will have a proper desk. Hot-desking only works in a place where people are always out on visits and only need a place to drop in to record the results. Not good in a place where you are office based - even if you do go out to court and hence 'on average' aren't present for X% of your working day..
