In practice Employment Tribunal claims are either resolved prior to the issue fee being incurred or after payment of the hearing fee. Cases will rarely, if ever be resolved in between. The fee for a type B claim is therefore £1,200, (£250 issue + £950 hearing), a not inconsiderable sum for most people and a lot to risk if your claim is low value, hence the precipitous drop in claims, especially for discrimination.
