As far as judicial appointments go, his comments seem reasonably sensible. The judiciary should be chosen from the top members of the legal profession. There are fewer women in the top ranks of the profession.

There is, of course, the question why there are fewer women in the top ranks. No doubt there is more than one reason but that women as a whole have a more balanced life is, in my observation, true and would be a significant factor.
