Id say, up to £5000 for liability. Maybe up to £10k to Causation. Say, £18,000 - £20,000 for Quantum (this is for the run of the mill cases). To find out its only worth £3,500 still takes the above to get too. Complex are even worse.

I've got £300,000 on the clock for one that could settle for £20K or £200K but the D's have denied all the way and its complex. If it settles for £20K id get slated...but I have to act in my clients best interests. Settles for £200K, I'm close to fine (with certain reductions).

Solicitors are expected to cut corners rather than a proper job. Proper job comes at a cost, cutting corners also comes at a cost but in a totally different sense. Missing elements or undervalue. How is that advancing the Rule of Law.
