I agree with you Barry – and I think that most people would also agree that English and European laws are not engraved in stone. They have been subject to an endless process of change and re-formulation for many centuries, by the judiciary and through parliament. They remain in need of both re-formation and in places restoration – and I suggest that in the current state of affairs they should become more inclusive ~ and less exclusively secular.
