I am appalled that the Judge in this case is referred to in the article as" Hickman" and by some contributors as "Mr Hickman" He is the "Learned District Judge" and I would hazard a guess that he knows more law than anyone who has criticised him herein.
As others have said, The defendant's status as a prisoner has no bearing on this case.Under our present system he is entitled to claim and if you don't like it then change the system. Was his property damaged deliberately or recklessly? Almost certainly. The prison concerned and the GLD have no one to blame but themselves for this outcome.
