Indeed. And frankly the way our industry has deteriorated in the last 15 years or so saddens me. Really since the abolition of legal aid for PI work every reform which has been introduced has ended up creating an environment which has allowed the problems to get worse. Not ( I hasten to say) that I don't think reform was necessary - and the Legal Aid system left huge gaps in access to justice - but the government really should learn from experience and not rush to further reform without proper thought.

The idea that a shorter than usual consultation period is appropriate because everyone knows what they're going to say simply beggars belief. More consultation not less - and specifically seeking to engage the more thoughtful minds on all sides of the argument - not just listening to the usual shouting voices (whether that be the ABI/Aviva coalition or some of the usual suspects on our side) parroting their self-interested arguments.

I dare say we will be considered 'old fogeys' and our views brushed aside in the usual noise. But if the future of our industry is in the hands of the self-appointed thought police who regularly comment in these threads, castigating those expressing alternate views or simply operating on the other side of this industry as 'utterly stupid' then things can only get better. Can't they?
