Where is it shown that the judiciary attracts the best and the brightest?
I doubt that 90% of the 'talent' to do the job in the country is limited within the confines of the white middle aged men who fill the higher judiciary perhaps they should widen the search for talent if they can't fill the positions?
Ten fact they are failing to do so, illustrates the working of the old boys network perfectly
And more generally, level of pay has nothing to do with 'talent' but rather what the 'market' will bear- if commerical lawyers/ QCs were earning less than 100k pa no doubt they would kill each other in the rush to be appointed
