The writing was on the wall a long time ago, Paul. I had the singular misfortune to work for them, and left in the early stages of what turns out to be a sizeable and continuing exodus.

The model was for shiny city centre offices in big cities. I can't speak for the Derby office, but it was clear to many (if not most) from the Fentons contingent that whereas Failsworth had been protected from on high by the previous management (who actually cared about the people, their happiness, the culture of the firm etc.), it was almost certain that uninspiring high street premises in a deprived outer suburb would be inconsistent with the way in which the firm was planning to position itself.

Your point is well made though. It is clear is that S&G care not one jot for their staff. If they did, they wouldn't have treat people with apparently deliberate contempt.
