Maybe I am swimming against the tide but I like it. Makes perfect sense. I take on board the issue of value v complexity, but I practice in construction and frankly a £50k matter is usually very complex. So allowing for a two day hearing, Counsel reading in etc, say £6000. That leaves £12,750. Say £1200 for an experts report, and say £500 to appear to give evidence, that leaves £11,050. Divide that by £250 per hour (my top rate) 44 hours of work. Could I prepare a £50k matter in 44 hours, yes I could. Have I prepared a £50k matter in 44 hours, yes I have. Would I do it again, yes I would. Where do I sign? Anyone who has ever done construction adjudication has worked longer hours for less money.
