My one concern about many district judges now is just how utterly rude they often are. I was taught to respect judges and always be polite. Some of them seem to forget their professional manners and have no respect for those appearing before them. We are all overworked and very stressed but we must all remember that we are in a profession and act accordingly. I have worked in both private practice and for a local authority. Even pre recession there was very little by way of support for any of the solicitors I worked with for a large local authority in the North East. Typing your own statements for witnesses, putting your own bundles together for five day hearings, even photocopying those massive bundles. Not being able to take a lunch break but the clocking in system knocking the thirty minutes off anyway. Not to mention the empire building by senior staff who provided no training and absolutely no support to their junior staff. Give me private practice any day.
