We're hardly talking about Oligarchs running the court system here are we? I'm acting for a lady who has continued to work, as does her husband, but has suffered devastating injuries. £10,000 for the court fee. The same is true of a struggling mum who continues to work, and has lost her husband. £10,000 for the court fee. Shameful.

I'm having to explain to spouses who wish to divorce that the court fee is £410 - soon to be £550 - just for the petition. If they don't receive one of six benefits, or earn an absolute pittance, they don't qualify for an exemption.

Then there;s the local business, shafted by someone who has left the almost bankrupt - £8,000 for that fee - and they have no money to pay their own staff.

I've stopped advising those who want to go the Employment Tribunal as the fees including the hearing costs are around £1,000.

This is a despicable, disgusting, and downright unfair tax on the ordinary. The conception that major PLCs and Billionaires rush to my local county court; Dudley, is absolutely and utterly ridiculous.

When I started in law, the small claims limit was £500. You could send in the sheriff for a judgment over £500. A writ was £50. Divorce and everything else was free.

I am beyond furious that the Government has created a huge barrier to justice. How on earth can it be said that Solicitors fees are too high, so they are slashed, budgeted and soon to be fixed.... when fees are increased by 620% in some cases?

What aggravates me more than anything is that the government act with impunity. Massive rises in court fees, withdrawal of legal aid, and the selling of court buildings. All this a year after the celebration of 800 years of the Magna Carta where 'justice must not be sold'.

Added to the misery is the wholesale anding over of justice to insurers. Clients now pay success fees, ATE policies are not recoverable, damages are still woefully low, Portals and budgeting have been introduced, and now costs are to be fixed. The public lose, insurers gain.

I feel as though I'm in North Korea, and cannot believe the salvo of attacks that seem to go completely unchallenged. Thank God I love my job, because I hate the way the system has become.
