I think she was in the course of appealing against her conviction at the time of her SDT hearing, Mick. The basis of her appeal was that the statistician for the prosecution said there was, say, one chance in 100,000 of a cot death and that therefore there was one chance in 100,000 x 100,000 of a person suffering two, whereas it is still 1 in 100,000.

This brings to mind a GP I heard of who resigned from giving forensic reports to Manchester police. The reason he gave was that he was fed up with being pressurised into giving reports favourable to the prosecution. Even the straight coppers are under pressure to 'get a conviction'. The whole system is bent. Any conviction should be looked at with great circumspection, especially now that there are very considerable incentives to 'pleading' at the earliest opportunity.
