Sorry, Raynor, no I usually do at least try to be restrained in my comments. However, I am just getting to the end of Peter Fitzsimons' biography of Ned Kelly and it has reminded me of how the police work. Yes, perhaps things were a little harsher in the bush north of Melbourne in 1880s than they are, or at least SHOULD BE, here today under PACE, but the same, or at least similar tricks keep being pulled. Just look at the Sally Clark case I mentioned above. A schoolboy could have told you that if you toss a coin and it comes down heads, the chance of it coming down heads again are still 50:50. Meadows was rightly struck off. And Dr Williams deliberately suppressed another medical report he knew of which would have thrown doubt on the second death being a 'cot' death, as opposed to one from natural causes. In my opinion he should have been struck off, too. And the police and prosecution lean on these witnesses to behave in this way, if they need leaning on that is.
