Jonathan starts out by referring to the EU directives which require competition in the legal sector but, when he comes to question the wisdom of the philosophy of more competition for its own sake he narrows the focus to our government. The fact is, Jonathan, that most legal professions once had what the EU will want the Serbians to give up, namely fixed fees which made the cost of using a lawyer predictable (and often cheap when compared with what is happening now), so why does the EU hang on to the idea that freedom of charging and free competition in the legal sector is the Holy Grail? Isn't this dogma by another name?
