Not only Mr Woodford, Anon, but also former Chancellor Norman Lamont, and no doubt many other respected figures (if I only knew them). That "little more reading" I recommended includes reading me a little more carefully. I explicitly didn't advance any economic argument. I merely pointed out that economists, like doctors, disagree. And when they have disagreed for 50 years over an issue so thoroughly thrashed-out as "Europe" ought to have been by this time, I think it logical to assume that agreement is unattainable. This doesn't worry me, because I never regarded the question of our EU membership as a primarily economic one. But it ought to give you economists food for thought.
