For those of us old enough this is a return to the old days when probate court fees were related to the size of the estate. It has only been in the last twnety years or so that these fees were set at a flat rate.

Haviing said that, and taking inflation over the years into account, the proposed figures seem very high and, as has been said, what has the value of the estate got to do with the work required of the Probate Registry in issuing a Grant of Probate? I submit nothing whatsoever.

It is clearly nothing more than yet another revenue raising exercise by the back door.
