High Street firms survive through having various income streams. Not so long ago the LSC encouraged firms to specialise. Some did. Mine didn't. The BFG and others believe that they deserve more of a share because of size of firm and "expertise". Instead of winning clients through client care and marketing BFG convinced MoJ that Big is Best. Unfortunately TT didn't give BFG what they wanted.
What MoJ and LAA should do is encourage firms to diversify; to cut their cloth to suit; for duty rotas to be run and organised by local committees and for law firm partners to be given intensive training in how to run a business and how the pursuit of turnover instead of the pursuit of profit is the road to closure.
