Anon @ 10.10, I was at one of the independent, regional players when S&G took over in 2013. At first sight there was a lot to be positive about - the prospect was that we would carry on much as before, subject to harmonising systems, but with the benefit of a firm with the punch to take on the insurers.

Whatever the down sides of S&G, they have had the clout to get their say in the papers, on TV etc, which claimant PI firms generally are too small to do. They also always seemed to me to be genuine in their support of victims' rights.

There had been two waves of expansion in the UK, no sign of Quindell on the horizon, and low value PI costs had just been halved - they couldn't possibly be further reduced, could they?

However, the quality of cases brought in from other acquisitions was at best variable, and the pressure to produce cash flow was intense.

I left.
