The issues raised, as I understand the article, relate to law and LPC graduates struggling for training contracts who are prepared to work for nothing in the hope they may get an offer either from the firm accommodating them or from another firm prepared to consider them on account of the experience gained. Did I read it wrong? I'm not sure what relevance there is to 6th form students coming in for a week or two to get an idea what goes on in a solicitors office.
There's something wrong when young people already up to the eyeballs in debt through university and LPC fees are expected to undertake work for months with no pay that would otherwise be done by paid employees whether fee-earning or not. If the profession is oversubscribed then why have people incurring debt paying for professional qualifications only for them to be unable to secure paid employment in their career aspirations?
