Protectionism of the most repugnant kind.
The use of fee charging MFs has grown because the legal profession and its PI insurers have become so greedy that they have priced themselves out of work. I have won cases that would never have seen the light of day if a solicitor had been the only option to initiate the claim.
Furthermore, fee charging MFs often win cases before proceedings are issued and if issued often win without a hearing. Both outcomes that the courts favour.
The legal profession hides behind a cloak of respectability yet the way solicitors prolong interlocutory work at great expense to their clients tells a different story.
Fee charging MFs provide access to legal redress where it won't exist under the current expensive system.
The need for choice is so great I'm surprised that Richard Branson has set up a firm of fee charging MFs.
