I was always under the impression that if on the Roll but no PC you must be very careful to ensure any reference to 'Solicitor' for yourself was always accompanied by 'Former' or 'Retired'.

I would have thought even referring to yourself on those terms should generally be avoided unless relevant and necessary in particular circumstances.

Obviously there's quite some friction between that and also then wanting to proclaim your expertise in advertising for legal services.
