I agree with both John and you, David, except I don't get the remark on Chirac.
I would see any government as fully justified in confiscating the entire wealth of all politicians who had got us into these messes and handing over any of them to any trustworthy tribunal that provided prima facie evidence that they colluded in or connived at anything contrary to our or international law, regardless of what penalty they would pay. I'm someone for whom they idea of vengeance is strange - what could I possibly get out of it? - but there is scarcely anything too bad for those who precipitated so many innocent people into mayhem. I would be prepared to pay the economic cost of helping other people to be free, but if such risk to them is so foreseeable, then the only course is to withdraw entirely from any in/direct armed involvement overseas.
