David, surely the reason we use Volvos over Dennis fire-engines is more to do with the UK's decreasing productivity?

For what is the point of the UK making Dennis fire-engines when they will be more expensive and of a lower quality? As a UK citizen (in this microcosm of the issue centered around a fire engine) I would unequivocally choose the vehicle that is better at its purpose and cheaper for the government to buy. Rather than being blindly patriotic and watching houses burn (metaphor).
